BT and Oracle Collaborate to Make It Easier for Global Organizations to Move to the Cloud BT becomes the first global network services provider to offer direct access to the Oracle Cloud

BT and Oracle today announced that they are working together to help organizations across the world take advantage of performance, cost and innovation benefits of the cloud. Oracle customers will be able to leverage the high performance, reliability, and security features of the BT Cloud Connect environment to gain direct connectivity to the Oracle Cloud.

While organizations understand the promise and many benefits of the cloud, many are concerned about security and performance issues associated with cloud technologies. This is especially true for business-critical enterprise workloads that frequently demand high levels of availability, security and performance. Together, BT and Oracle are aiming to remove those barriers to cloud adoption by providing options for connectivity from hybrid enterprise data centers to the Oracle Cloud. 

“Cloud is the fastest growing part of Oracle’s business,” said Thomas Kurian, president of Product Development, Oracle. “This partnership will help our customers leveraging the Oracle Cloud execute on their business strategies by taking advantage of the breadth and depth of BT’s global network and its Cloud Connect offering for their high bandwidth connectivity needs.”

With BT Cloud Connect for Oracle FastConnect, customers can use a private connection based on BT’s IP Connect VPN service, which is designed to predictably, securely and consistently exchange large volumes of data between the Oracle Cloud and their own on-premises environment. BT will connect directly to Oracle’s Cloud locations in Amsterdam and London, giving customers access from anywhere in the world to services provided in European data centers. Through pre-provisioning via BT Cloud Connect, BT can cut the typical dedicated connection deployment time from months to days.

The Oracle Cloud is used by many of the world’s largest organizations. It supports 70 million users and more than 34 billion transactions each day and runs in 19 data centers around the world. With the Oracle Cloud, customers can take advantage of the broadest and most integrated public cloud portfolio across all layers of the IT stack, while also having the choice to bring the Oracle Cloud into their own data centers via the recently announced “Oracle Cloud at Customer” offering. Oracle FastConnect is part of Oracle IaaS, and intended to enable organizations to quickly meet IT and business goals by leveraging a set of core capabilities such as elastic computing, networking and storage.

This news builds on BT’s Cloud of Clouds portfolio strategy by allowing its multinational customers to connect to the cloud through a centrally managed high-speed network with highly predictable performance, reliability and embedded security features.

BT and Oracle aim to offer the service in the final quarter of calendar year 2016.

Today, Oracle announced two new models of its Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) bringing all of the performance and reliability of Oracle's Engineered Systems to small and mid-sized businesses for the first time.

In addition, as organizations seek opportunities to transition to the cloud, Oracle’s new database appliances provide a bridge between on-premise systems and the cloud. In the future, organizations that plan to connect their ODAs to the Oracle Cloud can seamlessly back up their data automatically.

"Bringing in Oracle Database Appliances definitely reduced the complexity of our environment and allowed us to support our 25X data growth over the past few years," said Jacqueline Hufford-Jenson, Senior Manager, Database Administration, LifeLock, a fast-growing, mid-market company.  "Today, using the Oracle Database Appliance straight out of the box, we get significantly reduced latency, which has played a role in helping us grow as a company.”

Oracle’s portfolio of database appliances, like all Oracle Engineered Systems, enables organizations to simplify their journey to the cloud. Customers can backup or archive their critical data, and easily move their workloads to the Oracle Cloud whenever needed. Central to these new versions of the ODA is support for the Oracle Database Standard Edition 2 and Oracle Database Enterprise Edition.

“We’re excited to bring the power, simplicity and capabilities of Oracle’s Engineered Systems in at a price point that allows every organization to save time and money,” said Jim Gargan, senior vice president of Oracle Converged Infrastructure. “With the family of database appliances, Oracle offers built-in expertise for single-instance database and high-availability deployments, while providing a bridge between on-premise systems and the cloud, enabling all of our customers to capitalize on their investment.”

The Oracle Database Appliance is designed to run single-instance databases, database consolidation of multiple databases, and high-availability designs.

Added features include:

  • Starting price of $18,000 for new, entry-level database appliance for single or small database instances;
  • Reducing time to value, customers can deploy in as little as 30 minutes;
  • NVMe Flash drives for ultimate performance and reliability;
  • Integration to Oracle Cloud, allowing businesses to backup and archive their critical data as well as migrate workloads to the cloud when ready.

“Since Oracle owns the entire stack, its systems are fully hardware-software integrated, pre-tested, and optimized from silicon to applications. They are quickly deployed, extend smoothly to Oracle’s cloud, and the various systems seem to work well together. The latest family members, Oracle Database Appliance X6-2S and X6-2M, should help small and medium-sized businesses put a fully operational entry-level Oracle database in place—apparently no screwdrivers required,” said Peter Rutten, Analyst, IDC Computing Platforms Group.

Oracle today announced that after a detailed review and selection process, Pfizer has selected Oracle Health Sciences InForm Cloud Service and the Oracle Siebel Clinical Trial Management and Monitoring Cloud Service to help manage and monitor its more than 300 clinical trials a year and continue to provide best-in-class solutions.
 
“Oracle Health Sciences InForm Cloud Service and Oracle Siebel Clinical Trial Management and Monitoring Cloud Service can simplify how we manage both operational and study data for in-house as well as outsourced studies,” said Rob Goodwin, vice president of Pfizer Global Product Development, Center of Excellence. “Clinical teams will be able to access study data through Oracle’s single platform cloud service, eliminating the need to send data back and forth to CROs, saving us time and reducing the cost of our clinical studies.”
 
By using Oracle Health Sciences InForm Cloud Service, Pfizer will be able to take advantage of over 100,000 investigator sites already trained in InForm, while increasing site data satisfaction.
 
The Oracle Health Sciences InForm Cloud Service will enable Pfizer to have greater control over its data and provide measurable efficiency and productivity gains in data management and remote monitoring. In addition, study templates and library management capabilities within Oracle Health Sciences InForm will enable Pfizer to accelerate the study-build process and result in faster trial implementation.

Oracle Health Sciences InForm Cloud Service includes both Oracle Health Sciences InForm and Oracle Health Sciences Data Management Workbench (DMW) to advance standardized end-to-end clinical data collection and management processes that help drive greater efficiencies for both internal and outsourced trials. Utilizing the platform, efficiencies can be gained through the seamless integration of Oracle Health Sciences InForm, Oracle Health Sciences Central Designer, and Oracle Health Sciences Data Management Workbench, enabling data standardization, streamlining collection, consolidation, cleaning, and transformation.
 
Pfizer will also use Oracle Siebel Clinical Trial Management and Monitoring Cloud Service, including Oracle Siebel Clinical Trial Management System, Oracle Health Sciences Clinical Development Analytics, and risk-based monitoring (RBM) functionality to provide new insights into trial management and help increase efficiency of the monitoring workforce. A single set of tools for internal and outsourced trials can simplify data exchange and the interface between investigator sites, CRO partners, and Pfizer. With the selection of Oracle’s platform and RBM solution, Pfizer will be able to execute risk-based monitoring through an integrated approach.
 
The Oracle Siebel Clinical Trial Management and Monitoring Cloud Service, which utilizes Oracle Siebel Clinical Trial Management System and Oracle Health Sciences Clinical Development Analytics, is a solution that combines standardized comprehensive clinical trial capabilities, integrated analytic tools, and data security with a cloud service that enables organizations to manage clinical trials effectively and economically, as well as improve CRO and sponsor relationships from early to late stage clinical trials.

The conversion to the cloud is one of the most significant IT transformations in history. IDC predicts that by 2018, at least half of IT spending will be cloud based. To help customers transition to the cloud with proven enterprise applications, while accelerating time-to-market for partners, Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) today unveiled Oracle Cloud Platform Ready for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs).

Oracle Cloud Platform Ready provides OPN members at Silver level or higher, a simple way to create an initial application listing on Oracle Cloud Marketplace in the Platform and Infrastructure sections in mere minutes. Any partner application that supports an Oracle Cloud compatible operating system or technology product can run on Oracle Cloud without the need for rewrite, and at no additional cost. To speed time-to-market, partners can quickly request access to Oracle Cloud Specialists and other technical resources directly from the Oracle Cloud Platform Ready registration. Oracle and Mellanox today announced a partnership to drive interoperability between their products and to jointly develop further industry standards for InfiniBand—a high speed Cloud networking technology.

Products supporting the InfiniBand standard not only provide extreme bandwidth and ultra-low latency for fast, agile, and secure cloud infrastructure, but they are also based upon industry standards and available from multiple vendors. Oracle and Mellanox Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) 100G InfiniBand products are engineered to the InfiniBandTM Architecture Specification Release 1.3 and allow customers to deploy a 100Gb/s fabric that is backwards compatible with the previous generations of InfiniBand-based systems (FDR, QDR, DDR, and SDR), enabling customers to protect their investments in InfiniBand-enabled applications.

Q4 FY16 SAAS AND PAAS REVENUES WERE UP 66%, AND UP 68% IN CONSTANT CURRENCY Q1 FY17 SaaS and PaaS Revenues Expected to be Up 75% to 80%

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Jun 16, 2016

Oracle Corporation (NYSE: ORCL) today announced fiscal 2016 Q4 results. Total Q4 Revenues were $10.6 billion, down 1% in U.S. dollars and flat in constant currency. Cloud plus On-Premise Software Revenues were $8.4 billion, flat in U.S. dollars and up 2% in constant currency. Cloud software as a service (SaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) revenues were $690 million, up 66% in U.S. dollars and up 68% in constant currency. Total Cloud revenues, including infrastructure as a service (IaaS), were $859 million, up 49% in U.S dollars and up 51% in constant currency. Operating Income was $4.0 billion, and Operating Margin was 37%. Non-GAAP Operating Income was $4.8 billion, and the non-GAAP Operating Margin was 45%. Net Income was $2.8 billion while non-GAAP Net Income was $3.4 billion. Earnings Per Share was $0.66, while non-GAAP Earnings Per Share was $0.81. Without the impact of the U.S. dollar strengthening compared to foreign currencies, Oracle’s reported GAAP Earnings Per Share would have been 2 cents higher and non-GAAP Earnings Per Share would have been 1 cent higher.

Short-term deferred revenues were $7.7 billion, up 6% in U.S. dollars and up 7% in constant currency compared with a year ago. Operating cash flow on a trailing twelve-month basis was $13.6 billion.

For fiscal 2016, Total Revenues were $37.0 billion, down 3% in U.S. dollars and up 2% in constant currency. Cloud plus On-Premise Software Revenues were $29.0 billion, down 2% in U.S. dollars and up 3% in constant currency. Cloud SaaS and PaaS revenues were $2.2 billion, up 49% in U.S. dollars and up 52% in constant currency. Total Cloud revenues, including IaaS, were $2.9 billion, up 36% in U.S dollars and up 40% in constant currency. Operating Income was $12.6 billion, and Operating Margin was 34%. Non-GAAP Operating Income was $15.8 billion and non-GAAP Operating Margin was 43%. Net Income was $8.9 billion while non-GAAP Net Income was $11.2 billion. Earnings Per Share was $2.07, while Non-GAAP Earnings Per Share was $2.61. Without the impact of the U.S. dollar strengthening compared to foreign currencies, Oracle’s reported GAAP and non-GAAP Earnings Per Share would have been 17 cents higher.

“Fourth quarter SaaS and PaaS revenue growth accelerated to 68% in constant currency, significantly higher than my guidance,” said Oracle CEO, Safra Catz. “SaaS and PaaS gross margins continued to improve throughout the year, exiting FY16 at 56%. Bookings in Q4 were also very strong enabling us to raise our guidance for Q1 SaaS and PaaS revenue growth, which we now expect to be between 75% and 80%.”

“We added more than 1,600 new SaaS customers and more than 2,000 new PaaS customers in Q4,” said Oracle CEO, Mark Hurd. “In Fusion ERP alone, we added more than 800 new cloud customers. Today, Oracle has nearly 2,600 Fusion ERP customers in the Oracle Public Cloud – that’s ten-times more cloud ERP customers than Workday.”

“We expect that the SaaS and PaaS hyper-growth we experienced in FY16 will continue on for the next few years,” said Oracle Executive Chairman and CTO, Larry Ellison. “That gives us a fighting chance to be the first cloud company to reach $10 billion in SaaS and PaaS revenue. We’re also very excited about the availability of version 2 of Oracle’s Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)—which will enable us to speed up the growth of our IaaS business, which customers want to buy in conjunction with our SaaS and PaaS.”

The Board of Directors also declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.15 per share of outstanding common stock. This dividend will be paid to stockholders of record as of the close of business on July 6, 2016, with a payment date of July 27, 2016.

Oracle and Snapchat today announced a partnership to measure the impact of digital advertising in the physical world. By teaming together, Oracle Data Cloud and Snapchat measure incremental store sales resulting from marketing campaigns run on Snapchat. By analyzing the impact of campaigns on in-store sales, Oracle Data Cloud will help consumer packaged goods (CPG) advertisers quantify and improve their ongoing marketing efforts on Snapchat.
 
Oracle Data Cloud also released new research analyzing the in-store sales lift from 12 CPG campaigns run on Snapchat for leading cosmetic, personal care, cleaning, packaged food, and beverage brands. Among the findings:
 
92 percent of the Snapchat ad campaigns drove a positive lift in in-store sales
 
Snapchat ad campaigns exceeded Oracle Data Cloud norms on all key metrics with sales lift being the primary driver.

President Obama endorses Oracle’s work in advancing computer science and STEM education globally.

On the heels of Oracle’s $200 million commitment to support Computer Science (CS) Education for All, today the White House announced Oracle’s additional $3 million investment to immerse girls worldwide in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The company’s commitment of direct and in-kind funding supports “Let Girls Learn,” a U.S. government initiative aimed at helping adolescent girls around the world go to school and stay in school.

“It takes 25 years to build a computer engineer, not 25 hours, so we need to get started,” said Safra Catz, Oracle CEO. “The computer sciences lose too many girls too early and once lost, it’s nearly impossible to get them back. We want more girls focused on building upon science and math fundamentals and we want more women choosing the technical disciplines because they are both prepared to do so and because they believe it will advance their career opportunities.”

Oracle will offer more than 65 educational events and reach over 55,000 young girls globally through a powerful nexus of its corporate social responsibility programs spanning Oracle Academy, Oracle Education Foundation, Oracle Giving and Volunteers, Oracle Women’s Leadership (OWL), and Oracle Diversity and Inclusion. Events will include summer computing camps, codefests, workshops and conferences designed to encourage and inspire adolescent girls to become original thinkers, creative designers and enterprising trailblazers.

Additionally, Oracle plans to expand its CS efforts in Egypt with an additional investment of nearly $1 million in educational resources and services over the next four years. The commitment is part of a new collaboration between the Ministry of Education in Egypt, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Oracle Academy, Oracle’s philanthropic educational program that impacts more than 2.6 million students in 106 countries. The partnership will support computing education in nine newly-created STEM schools throughout the country, including one boarding school exclusively for girls which will accept up the top 10 percent of girls across the governorates, reaching 150 girls each year and providing three years of paid education for each girl.

As part of the company’s global campaign to support girls and women in technology, Oracle will drive several notable projects:

  • Oracle Academy will team with Arizona State University and others under the USAID Build-IT project to help women in Vietnam develop into IT leaders. President Obama recently endorsed Oracle’s contribution in furthering this effort.
  • Oracle Education Foundation and Oracle Volunteers will team to teach girls coding, electrical engineering and project management through girls-only workshops for Design Tech High School (d.tech), an innovative, free California public high school. Oracle is building d.tech’s new facility at its headquarters in Redwood Shores, Calif., making d.tech the world’s first public high school on a technology campus.
  • Oracle Giving and Oracle Academy will award grants and sponsorships globally to nonprofit organizations striving to increase girls’ access to educational opportunities and encourage them to pursue degrees in computer science and STEM fields.
  • Oracle Giving will continue its support for MentorNet, which engages STEM professionals in the virtual mentoring of undergraduates, 66% of whom are women.

Patient safety is critical when pharmaceutical organizations develop new drug therapies and treatments. At the same, these pharmaceutical companies face pressures to deliver timely products to market and minimize costs. Oracle Health Sciences today announced that GemVax & KAEL Group, a novel therapeutic cancer vaccine company in South Korea, is using Oracle Argus Cloud to make faster, more informed drug safety decisions, while reducing the costs of outsourcing its business to a contract resource organization.

With the domestic launch of a new oncology drug and the upcoming global NDA approval for the drug, GemVax wanted to set up an in-house database to manage and have more control over both its new and existing cases. Previously, GemVax’s pharmacovigilance processes were managed through a global contract resource organization.

Oracle Argus Cloud enables GemVAX to improve its pharmacovigilance efficiency and effectiveness, while reducing the overall cost to manage its system in-house. Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Opower (NYSE: OPWR), the leading provider of customer engagement and energy efficiency cloud services to utilities, for $10.30 per share in cash. The transaction is valued at approximately $532 million, net of Opower’s cash.

Opower’s solutions enable over 100 global utilities, such as PG&E, Exelon and National Grid, to deliver a modern digital customer experience. Opower’s big data platform stores and analyzes over 600 billion meter reads from 60 million utility end customers, enabling utilities to proactively meet regulatory requirements, decrease the cost to serve, and improve customer satisfaction.

Field service is a customer service cornerstone for brands spanning a number of industries—including telecommunications, utilities, high tech and manufacturing. A field service appointment may be the only time a company engages with its customers face-to-face to deliver a differentiated customer experience. Leveraging time-based, predictive, self-learning technology, Oracle Field Service Cloud helps create the most efficient job schedules and travel routes for field resources to ensure the right field resource arrives to every job on-time, with the parts and knowledge to complete the work the first time.

New features and integrations available in the latest release of Oracle Field Service Cloud include:

  • Expanded Field Resource Manager: Using a mobile device, field supervisors can now manage all field activities in real time with additional insights into field service team capacity. These new capabilities enable the field workforce to quickly respond to changing customer needs, while streamlining collaboration between resources in the field.
  • Automated Urgent Work Assignment: Companies can now respond to emergency situations using Oracle Field Service Cloud. When an event occurs, the application automatically locates the field resource nearest to the job and immediately routes them to the urgent event. The ability to take action automatically, without requiring human intervention, will help companies ensure relevant resources are quickly deployed – which in emergency situations, can make all the difference.
  • Integration with Oracle’s E-Business Suite: This integration helps streamline job scheduling and inventory tracking capabilities. New integrations with Oracle Integration Cloud Service (ICS) help Oracle Field Service Cloud customers quickly and easily integrate with other cloud applications such as Oracle Sales Cloud.

Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Textura (NYSE: TXTR), a leading provider of construction contracts and payment management cloud services for $26.00 per share in cash. The transaction is valued at approximately $663 million, net of Textura’s cash.

Textura’s cloud services process $3.4 billion in payments for over 6,000 projects each month, helping keep projects on time and under budget while reducing risk for developers, contractors and subcontractors. Textura offers its cloud services in a consumption model preferred by the engineering and construction industry whereby the companies involved pay based on project activity. Further, usage of Textura’s cloud services creates a network effect that benefits all participants as more than 85,000 general and subcontractors are connected to the platform.

Oracle Primavera offers a complete suite of cloud solutions for project, cost, time and risk management. The Oracle Primavera flagship products have been completely re-architected for the Cloud, and the result is a set of cloud services that are growing rapidly as construction and engineering companies embrace digital transformation. Oracle Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Markie Awards The 2016 Markie Awards represent Oracle Marketing Cloud’s biggest award campaign in history with 350 submissions highlighting modern marketing success

To promote best practices and celebrate the accomplishments of modern marketers around the world, Oracle has announced the winners of the 2016 Markie Awards. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the annual Markie Awards recognize the top companies and leaders for creative, innovative, and effective modern marketing campaigns that delivered increased engagement, conversation and ROI. Past winners include notable companies such as The Dow Chemical Company, Intel, Marriott Rewards, DocuSign, Twitter and Rockwell Automation.

The Markie Awards highlight the best omnichannel success stories in an age where the customer experience is more important than ever before. This year marked the Markie Award’s biggest campaign yet with a total of 350 award submissions, up 80 percent over last year.

The 2016 Markie Awards featured 19 categories that reflect the evolving marketing landscape, including: Best Digital Marketing Ecosystem, Best Sales and Marketing Alignment, Best Mobile Experience, Rapid Transformation, Content is King, and Modern Marketing Leader of the Year.

Extending its commitment to help consumer marketers target, convert and retain their ideal customers, Oracle has introduced new innovations and integrations for the Oracle Marketing Cloud. The latest additions empower marketers to use differentiated audience data for targeting on their paid media, orchestrate cross-channel interactions and further optimize the customer experience.

Marketers can now improve the customer experience through a new direct integration between Oracle Maxymiser and Oracle Responsys applications. The integration enables marketers to orchestrate Oracle Maxymiser-delivered messaging on a website in conjunction with messaging in email, SMS, MMS, push messaging, in-app messaging and display advertising. In addition, Oracle Maxymiser is now fully integrated with the Oracle Data Management Platform. The integration empowers marketers to tap into first, second and third party data and use it for audience testing and optimization initiatives.

To help marketers connect the right audience data and deliver a more consistent customer experience, new integrations with the Oracle Data Cloud have been introduced to the Oracle Marketing Cloud’s Data Management Platform. By leveraging Oracle Data Cloud’s enhanced modeling solution, the first integration gives marketers the ability to model their online audiences based on critical offline data, such as in-store purchase transactions. The second integration gives customers access to Oracle Data Cloud's AddThis Audience Discovery tool, which helps marketers better understand and target their ideal audience with relevant paid media campaigns. The powerful data-driven marketing solution uses natural language processing to look at keywords on billions of web pages across the web. It transforms those keywords into audience data that is based on the online behaviors of two billion unique users traversing more than 15 million websites around the world.

The latest additions to the Oracle Marketing Cloud also reduce the complexity of data-driven marketing by delivering greater insight into how customer engagement drives revenue. By leveraging the speed and scale of Oracle Business Intelligence, Oracle Marketing Cloud now provides marketers with advanced data visualization and investigation tools through an easy-to-use interface that delivers deep insights into performance across different channels. To further enhance usability, a new graphical audience segmentation feature allows B2C marketers to benefit from segmentation logic that is easier to visualize, test and reuse.
