Oracle Unveils Low Code Platform to Easily Extend SaaS Applications

Tue, 2016-09-20 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Unveils Low Code Platform to Easily Extend SaaS Applications Visual application development platform enables business users and developers to extend services and build new applications with little to no coding

Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif.—Sep 20, 2016

Oracle today unveiled Project Visual Code, a complete cloud-based application platform for low-code development. With this innovative new platform, customers can quickly and easily build and publish bespoke, stand-alone applications or extend applications by visually creating and publishing new integrated applications to meet any business need.

The real-time enterprise has made it necessary for organizations to rethink application development in order to keep up with rapidly changing demands. IT teams are often stuck with a backlog of work, which means the business can’t always get applications delivered quickly enough to capitalize on new opportunities presented by digital transformation. To help solve this challenge and democratize app development, Oracle has introduced Project Visual Code, which enables business users to quickly and easily develop and extend enterprise applications.

“Businesses need to be dynamic to remain relevant in today’s fast-paced business environment,” said Bill Pataky, vice president of product management for tools and frameworks at Oracle. “Project Visual Code introduces an effective way for business users to innovate in tandem with IT. It enables business users to extend and enrich off-the-shelf applications and build new solutions that can increase business efficiency and drive better results.”

“More than ever before, AD&D pros must obsess over their user interface designs. Today, customers and employees expect to access applications from a wide range of devices, putting additional pressure on developers. Low-code vendors employ familiar drag-and-drop, WYSIWYG techniques to speed user interface (UI) creation,” wrote Forrester analysts John Rymer and Clay Richardson in The Forrester Wave™: Low-Code Development Platforms, Q2 2016. The report goes on to say that many vendors “support responsive design, which automatically adapts forms and UIs based on the user's device and screen resolution.”

With the new Project Visual Code, customers will be able to utilize a library of responsive user interface components and complete applications – made available in the Oracle Cloud Marketplace—to add features that can be embedded directly into their own applications, environments or even existing Oracle Cloud applications. With minimal coding needed and intuitive visual design capabilities, business users and citizen developers can easily create the applications they need on their own, with little to no involvement from their IT department.

Built on a standards-based architecture, the new platform also enables customers and partners to create a rich ecosystem of modular user interface building blocks as well as complete applications. In addition, with its best-in-class mobile development features, the new platform enables the creation of on-device mobile applications that work even in disconnected mode.

Oracle’s Project Visual Code includes:

  • Builder: Oracle provides a visual tool for creating and hosting Web and mobile business applications through a no-code-required, browser-based development approach. This new version enables the creation of reusable applications that can be exported and imported between customers. It also introduces the ability to integrate reusable UI components and external services.
  • UI Design System: A new visual design system complements modern layouts and supports a responsive approach for multi-channel applications.
  • UI Component Architecture: Leveraging Oracle’s open source JavaScript Toolkit, reusable components can be designed and used to build native mobile and web applications.
  • Business Objects: Developers and business users can build applications over any REST based service or leverage the platform to easily create new objects for any custom data requirements. This enables users to create their own business objects and set validation rules, or take advantage of Project Visual Code’s scripting capability to define any rule their business requires.
  • Application Marketplace: Customers and partners can access, share and sell complete applications as well as functional UI components with specific capabilities, all built on the new Project Visual Code. Within the Oracle Cloud Marketplace, public catalogs allow partners and developers to open up new revenue streams and sell their components and applications, while private catalogs enable organizations to create an internal repository of shared resources to be used among various departments.

Project Visual Code enables me to create a complete application including database and rich responsive UI in minutes without writing a single line of code,” said Luc Bors, technical director at eProseed. “I like the fact that as a professional developer, I can add more advanced capabilities with a bit of JavaScript code.”

"As Oracle introduce more and more APIs from its SaaS applications through the Service Catalogue, I can incorporate them in my own business applications,” said Debra Lilley, vice president of Certus cloud services at Certus Solutions. “The similar UI experience and single sign-on makes this the ideal tool for building simple and very quick extensions to SaaS."

Oracle Transforms the Cloud Infrastructure Market

Mon, 2016-09-19 07:10
Press Release
Oracle Transforms the Cloud Infrastructure Market New Cloud services deliver unparalleled choice, performance and flexibility

Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif.—Sep 19, 2016

Oracle today introduced the broadest array of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) offerings in the industry, which include bare metal cloud servers that are 11.5X faster and 20 percent cheaper than the fastest solution offered by the competition. The new additions to the Oracle Cloud Platform enable customers to get the best of both multi-tenant and single-tenant environments and include Oracle Bare Metal Cloud Services, Oracle Ravello Cloud Service, Oracle Container Cloud Service and enhancements to existing Oracle Cloud services.

While the business benefits of the public cloud are increasingly clear, organizations face a myriad of performance, security and management concerns that mean they can’t simply abandon all of their existing IT practices and move all workloads to a multi-tenant cloud world. The latest enhancements to Oracle’s IaaS portfolio help organizations address this challenge by providing the ability to harness the benefits of Cloud while retaining many of the benefits provided by a corporate data center.

Oracle Bare Metal Cloud Services are a high-scale public cloud offering and include bare metal cloud servers in a fully virtualized network environment. The innovative new services deliver high performance database-as-service, network block storage, object storage and VPN connectivity. In addition, Oracle Bare Metal Cloud Services provide a secure, private and high-performance software defined Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) that allows customers to treat Oracle Bare Metal Cloud Services as a secure and elastic extension of their on-premise network. Additionally, Oracle Bare Metal Cloud Services maximize network throughput by providing direct connectivity between compute and storage nodes.

The regional deployment of Oracle Bare Metal Cloud Services consists of three completely fault-independent availability domains, enabling customers to build high availability, high durability applications in the Cloud. Oracle Bare Metal Cloud Services seamlessly interoperates with existing Oracle Cloud Platform offerings, helping customers build mission critical applications that take full advantage of available services on the Oracle Cloud.

Built on the foundation of the most modern datacenter, network and server infrastructure, the Oracle Bare Metal Services are designed with a fundamentally differentiated approach to Cloud platform development that gives customers choice and flexibility on their journey to the Cloud. This included ultra-dense compute servers that provide the industry’s best performance for enterprise workloads as well as the highest IOPS and the highest bandwidth storage servers available anywhere in public cloud offerings. As a result, Oracle customers can achieve 10X the throughput and IOPS of the best offering on competing Clouds, at a lower price. In addition to high performance, by not having software run on the compute hosts, Oracle is able to reduce potential points and deliver the best possible security available in Cloud.

Further extending the Oracle Cloud Platform, Oracle also announced Oracle Ravello Cloud Service, the general availability of Oracle Container Cloud Service and several significant enhancements to existing Oracle IaaS offerings.

Oracle Ravello Cloud Service is the first cloud service in the industry that enables organizations to take enterprise VMware and Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) workloads and run them in the public cloud without any changes. With Oracle Ravello Cloud Service, customers can run VMware natively on public cloud without requiring VM conversion, application reconfiguration or networking changes. It is also the only service in the industry that allows enterprises to have full L2 and L3 networking flexibility in the public cloud.

Oracle Container Cloud Service provides organizations with a Docker-compatible way to deploy application stacks with a single click. Registry integration capabilities, enterprise-grade application orchestration, and application scheduling and service scaling capabilities make the Oracle Container Cloud Service a uniquely compelling option for cloud developers.

Oracle has also introduced Oracle FastConnect – Standard and Partner editions – to help customers reliably and securely connect their datacenter to the Cloud. With the addition of Oracle FastConnect, Oracle now offers some of the broadest connectivity and peering options available in the industry, including IPsec VPN for easy setup, MPLS to connect to existing enterprise networks and Fast Connect for quick peering.

Oracle Cloud Platform offerings now also support Oracle MySQL Cloud Service, Oracle Big Data Cloud Service and Oracle Event Hub Cloud Service in addition to unparalleled support for Oracle’s existing Platform-as-a-Service offerings.

“As more and more enterprises leverage the Cloud, they want a simple, seamless way to migrate their large and complex IT infrastructures to the Cloud, and to use the security and management controls that their IT teams already know,” said Thomas Kurian, president of product development, Oracle. “The latest additions to the Oracle Cloud Platform enable organizations to seamlessly connect their existing resources to the Oracle Cloud using Virtual Cloud Network (VCN) and select from a wide variety of compute services including bare metal, virtual machines and engineered systems as if it were a part of their own datacenter.”

“We have been very impressed by how easy it is to use Oracle’s Bare Metal Cloud Services. The DataStax Enterprise clusters we’ve deployed are running blazingly fast, with sub-micro second latency, and these are key business drivers for us,” says Ben Lackey, lead partner at DataStax. “Additionally, the multiple availability domains per region, allows us to bring our mission critical, high availability workloads to Oracle’s Bare Metal Cloud.”

“We are excited about the results we are seeing with Oracle’s Bare Metal Cloud, with regard to the architecture, performance and scalability,” said Patrick Sullivan, managing partner and Oracle global technology lead at Accenture. "This enhances our clients’ ability to accelerate their journey to the Cloud.”

Oracle Unveils Its Next Generation Cloud Strategy: Intelligent Applications

Press Release
Oracle Unveils Its Next Generation Cloud Strategy: Intelligent Applications Oracle adds to its industry leading Cloud portfolio with new SaaS Cloud services and enhancements

Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif.—Sep 19, 2016

Building on its position as the industry’s leading Cloud Applications provider, Oracle today unveiled its strategy for next generation Software as a Service (SaaS) Cloud offerings that blend third-party data with real-time analytics and behavioral inputs to create Cloud Applications that adapt and learn. The result: intelligent Cloud Applications that automatically offer individualized recommended actions and streamline the tasks of business users such as human resource or finance professionals.

Called Adaptive Intelligent Applications, these next generation Cloud offerings are based on the insights contained within Oracle’s Data Cloud, which is a collection of more than 5+ billion consumer and business profiles, with over 45,000 attributes. When activated, these new Adaptive Intelligent Applications use Oracle’s web-scale data and apply advanced data science to learn and ingest data about an organization’s users and their behaviors to deliver targeted information to customers and employees. The insights from these deep analytics build a knowledge base that helps improve business results across organizations.

R “Ray” Wang, principal analyst at Constellation Research said: “There is a huge opportunity to monetize digital business through machine learning applications and analytics, and Oracle’s large corpus of data, strong expertise in data science, massive compute power, industry and domain expertise, and breadth of application solutions make it well-suited to be a leader in the quickly growing space.”

“A company’s data is its most valuable weapon. To remain competitive today, companies must access their information in real time to intelligently forecast and grow,” said Steve Miranda, Oracle’s executive vice president of applications development. “Oracle Adaptive Intelligent Applications leverage anonymized information from our extensive Data Cloud to optimize existing Cloud Application functionality. When this is combined with a company’s own data, we are able to provide unparalleled customized insights to help enhance business performance.

Oracle Adaptive Intelligent Applications have direct benefits for functional business units, providing them with actionable business and customer insights to make more informed decisions:

  • Finance professionals can nimbly negotiate best supplier terms, while optimizing cash flow needs and balancing costs—especially during critical financial events such as the end of a quarter or for a high volume of payables.
  • Human Resources recruiters can automatically identify best-fit candidates in the shortest time and HR managers can create job descriptions that will help candidates more efficiently find the best and most well-suited positions.
  • Marketing and Commerce managers can drive higher conversion rates, lift, repeat purchases, and ultimately, revenue, with smart, contextual offers and recommended actions for individual consumers.
  • Supply Chain managers can automatically find the best options to distribute goods around the world, while optimizing costs and price for both the buyers and the transporters to provide the best value freight and transportation options for enterprise shippers.

“Within the foreseeable future, every enterprise application will be a smart application that intuitively learns from interactions with an enterprise’s data. Oracle’s new Adaptive Intelligent solutions take this value proposition a step further. They are set apart from others by allowing the intelligent applications to learn from billions of anonymized consumer and business profiles available from Oracle.” said Dave Schubmehl, research director of cognitive systems and content analytics for IDC.

Building on its industry-leading suite of Cloud Applications, Oracle further expanded its SaaS portfolio with additional new Cloud Applications and enhancements that span sales, marketing, finance, human resources, and other areas of business. Some of the new offerings include:

  • Oracle Engagement Cloud, part of Oracle’s Customer Experience Cloud portfolio, is a new offering, which combines Oracle’s sales and service capabilities in one, providing a unique combination of sales automation, service request management, knowledge management, and customer self-service. Oracle Engagement Cloud enables organizations’ employees to deliver both sales and customer services from a single screen, powering a one-stop customer experience. Oracle Engagement Cloud helps improve customer satisfaction and loyalty, while increasing up-sell opportunities, particularly for organizations providing high-touch and high value customer engagements, such as wealth managers, enterprise sales reps, or managers who need access to service request in industries such as financial services, high tech and industrial manufacturing, consumer goods, and communications.
  • Oracle Financial Consolidation and Close (FCCS) Cloud, part of Oracle’s Enterprise Performance Management Cloud portfolio, enables Chief Financial Officers at organizations of all sizes to minimize risk, provide transparency, and ensure accurate results of the close. Able to rapidly deploy in weeks, Oracle FCCS provides CFOs the operational agility they need to effectively communicate their financial results to internal and external stakeholders, to quickly consolidate the operating results of an acquired business to help ensure compliance, and to scale globally without a need to re-implement core financial processes or systems.
  • Oracle Revenue Management Cloud, part of Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Cloud, increases visibility into the status and value of contracts, delivers compliant revenue recognition, and creates configurable and auditable revenue entries. The solution allows companies to adhere to the ASC 606/IFRS 15 core principles, accelerating the transition to the new accounting standards. Oracle ERP Cloud’s new enhancements deliver new support to Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) and their organizations with revenue recognition standards and multi-period accounting capabilities. Driving efficiencies and controls, Oracle ERP Cloud also enables organizations to scale globally with multi-language, multi-GAAP, multi-currency, and localization extensions that can transform finance organizations. As the most complete, modern, and proven ERP Cloud solution, Oracle ERP Cloud’s rapidly expanding customer base includes strong momentum in the public sector and with state and local governments.
  • Oracle Student Cloud’s new Oracle CX for Higher Education uses Oracle’s intuitive mobile technology to help recruiters boost their pipeline by targeting and qualifying best-fit prospects via social, email, and SMS CRM capabilities. Oracle Student Recruiting Cloud’s embedded analytics also help improve forecasting and monitor and optimize recruiters’ performance in their territories. Student Management Cloud is Oracle’s first application of student information systems (SIS) in the Cloud. It provides a student management roadmap and the foundation for nontraditional university functionality in a comprehensive, next-generation SIS that supports changing academic models by managing flexible academic structures, personalized learning, just-in-time intelligence, and BYOD access.
  • Oracle Human Capital Management Cloud’s latest release provides healthcare solutions to manage complex labor rules and contractual terms that enable customers to define eligibility rules for core Human Resources and criteria for benefits, absence, time, and labor and payroll. Oracle also helps provide an added layer of auditing, which can be easily managed in the Cloud. Additional global and industry extensions for higher education, retail, manufacturing, public sector, and professional services, also make it easier for multinational organizations to deploy and configure the solutions with expanded localizations for 99 countries.
  • Oracle Internet of Things Cloud collects data and conducts analysis in real time. Line of business users, such as Manufacturing Plant Managers, can monitor real-time quality control, get early insights into predictive maintenance needs, improve worker and equipment safety, and optimize yield through Oracle’s IoT Cloud Applications.
  • Oracle Supply Chain Management Cloud updates enable increased flexibility, reduced costs, and improved performance and visibility across the business. This comprehensive foundation allows forward-thinking organizations to optimize their global supply chains from ideation to design, to order capture, to manufacturing and planning, to shipping and logistics. Leverages the additional insights available through capabilities such as the Internet of Things and Oracle Data Cloud, Oracle offers the Intelligent Supply Chain.

Oracle Announces the Industry’s Most Comprehensive Offering for Analytics in the Cloud

Mon, 2016-09-19 07:04
Press Release
Oracle Announces the Industry’s Most Comprehensive Offering for Analytics in the Cloud Oracle Analytics Cloud is a comprehensive set of capabilities spanning packaged content, expert models, and data services as well as platform, applications and infrastructure

Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif.—Sep 19, 2016

Oracle today announced a number of innovations in analytics that give organizations a unified and complete suite of Cloud services to unlock value from their data. The new Oracle Cloud services enable businesses to fundamentally transform the way they generate insights from people, algorithms, processes and machines and deliver them to their users with intuitive visualizations, creative narratives and predictive outcomes using expert models and adaptive learning.

The industry's only end-to-end solution for business analytics, Oracle Analytics Cloud includes a high performance analytic processing infrastructure at scale; a broad suite of tools for data preparation, discovery, visualization and collaboration; a pre-packaged suite of domain-specific machine learning models; packaged best-practice analytic key performance indicators (KPIs) to run your business; and large scale, curated public data sets all designed for analytics.

“Public Cloud deployments of business analytics software are still in relatively early stages of adoption. However, the market for Cloud deployments are expected to grow at a rate 5x greater than on-premises and other deployment methods. Oracle Analytics Cloud embraces the emerging hybrid data management and analytics architecture, delivers self-service data access and analysis, and will embed cognitive/AI functionality. These capabilities make the company well positioned to take advantage of this market opportunity.” Dan Vesset, group vice president, Analytics and Information Management at IDC.

Oracle is the only company that unifies all these components of a modern analytics foundation including:

High Performance Infrastructure for Analytics at Scale

Oracle provides a complete set of very high-performance, elastically scalable infrastructure services designed for analytics processing on data of various types, shapes, and speeds:

  • Infrastructure: hyper-efficient compute, block and object storage infrastructure in the Cloud provides the best performance and scalability for analytic processing.
  • Elastic Analytics Platform: elastic Hadoop, Spark, and data streaming using Kafka allows customers to create elastic clusters to process data with MapReduce and Spark.
  • Flexible Data Storage: includes high-performance Object Storage, HDFS, Oracle Database and key-value/NoSQL engines.
  • Smart Options for Data Ingestion: includes streaming for high speed real-time and event data, and high-volume data replication across varied sources.
Powerful Capabilities for Data Preparation, Discovery, Visualization, and Collaboration

Built on the high-performance analytics infrastructure, Oracle provides a complete suite of tools to enable anyone in the company to derive insights and share them:

  • Data preparation to ingest, profile and cleanse data using a variety of algorithms.
  • Data flow allows data stewards to prepare, transform and aggregate data and then run machine-learning models at scale.
  • Data discovery makes it easy for subject matter experts to collaborate with data science teams, blending intelligent analysis at scale, machine learning, and statistical modeling.
  • Data visualization empowers anyone to visualize any data and glean insight on any device, on premises and in the cloud.
  • Data collaboration offers everyone proactive conversational content and drives ongoing interaction around smart insights.
  • Data-driven interfaces enable application developers to extend, customize and embed rich analytic experiences in their application flow.
Packaged Analytics and Machine Learning Models

Extending intelligence across the enterprise requires knowing the right metrics to measure and getting the guidance to understand those metrics in every aspect of the business. Unlike other vendors who provide platforms without data or expertise, or only offer artificial intelligence as the solution, Oracle delivers data, intelligence and expertise together. This includes hundreds of person years of analytical expertise tailored to multiple industries and business functions, embedded in core applications and extensible via a cloud-based analytics platform:

  • 8,000+ best practice KPIs for roles across a variety of functions including sales, marketing, service, finance, human resources and supply chain.
  • Optimized solutions with pre-built analytics for the largest portfolio of industry specific solutions including Communications, Construction and Engineering, Education, Financial Services, Health Sciences, Hospitality, Manufacturing, Retail and Utilities.
  • Smart Applications that adapt based on packaged machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms to provide intelligent predictions and recommendations.
  • Domain-specific applications for industries such as asset monitoring, production monitoring of manufacturing and supply chain systems, fleet management and connected workers.
  • A collaborative Oracle Cloud community for users to share analytics and expertise by exchanging data models, machine learning solutions, and algorithms.
Packaged Curated Data Sets to drive Analytics

To drive more effective marketing, selling, e-commerce and customer service, Oracle also offers packaged and highly curated data sets to drive more effective business processes and more targeted analytics.

  • Oracle Data Cloud: the world’s largest data marketplace intelligently aggregates and normalizes data across more than 5 billion global consumer profiles, with over 45,000 different dimensions from 1,500 providers. This unique data marketplace gives enterprises deep insight into their customers and prospects and can be activated through a suite of adaptive intelligent applications powered by deep learning models that operate at web-scale to learn about users and their behaviors.

“Competition in the cloud is changing,” said Thomas Kurian, president of product development at Oracle. “Inexpensive computing and storage are important, but the real game changer is creating business value through better insight. Only Oracle ties all the data, technologies, and expertise together to deliver that value for our customers. It’s that simple.”

Accenture and Oracle Expand the Accenture Oracle Business Group to Include Infrastructure-as-a-Service Offerings

Mon, 2016-09-19 07:01
Press Release
Accenture and Oracle Expand the Accenture Oracle Business Group to Include Infrastructure-as-a-Service Offerings Accenture becomes the first cloud managed service provider across Oracle’s public cloud

Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif.—Sep 19, 2016

Accenture (NYSE: ACN) and Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) have announced that infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offerings will now be available through the Accenture Oracle Business Group, adding to the already-existing software-as-a-service (SaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS) capabilities. The expansion of capabilities further positions Accenture as Oracle’s largest global systems integrator (GSI) and a leader in Oracle Public Cloud.

The Accenture Oracle Business Group was launched in April 2015 to deliver industry-specific solutions built on the Oracle Public Cloud that help clients with their digital transformation goals, realize the benefits of the Cloud faster and help reduce risk. Following an initial focus on the public, financial and hospitality services sectors, the combined business group has grown to support federal, insurance, health, higher education, oil and gas, and utilities industries. The extension to IaaS now means that the robust set of industry solutions will be available across a comprehensive Cloud suite of offerings, including both Oracle and non-Oracle workloads.

“Oracle is expanding their Cloud capabilities at an impressive pace, and we are pleased to now provide joint clients with a complete suite of offerings and industry solutions through the Accenture Oracle Business Group,” said Paul Daugherty, Accenture’s chief technology officer. “The addition of new IaaS offerings reflects our ongoing commitment to help clients achieve value through Oracle’s Cloud solutions and solidifies Accenture’s position as the first managed services provider for Oracle’s Cloud portfolio.”

“The growth of the Accenture Oracle Business Group showcases the continued strength of our more than two decade relationship with Accenture,” said Thomas Kurian, president of product development at Oracle. “Oracle is excited to announce Accenture as the first partner in our new Cloud Managed Service Provider Program. We look forward to Accenture’s ongoing role as a leading service provider for migration, implementation and managed services within Oracle’s Public Cloud to help mutual clients on their journey to the Cloud.”

With the addition of IaaS to the Accenture Oracle Business Group, Accenture has launched the following offerings:

  • Accenture migration services factory for Oracle IaaS
  • Accenture database performance lab for Oracle IaaS
  • Accenture managed services for Oracle Public Cloud (across SaaS, PaaS and IaaS)

Accenture will also migrate several of its Oracle offerings to Oracle IaaS and delivering them through the Accenture Oracle Business Group. The offerings will be supported on Oracle IaaS and include Accenture Enterprise Services for Government, Accenture Foundation Platform for Oracle and Accenture Life Sciences Cloud.

Accenture has been widely recognized by analyst firms as a leading Oracle implementation and managed services GSI. With this extension to IaaS, Accenture has achieved the prominent position of a leading Oracle services provider across Oracle’s Cloud portfolio—spanning SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS (including Oracle Cloud Machine).

The Accenture Oracle Business Group has been especially successful in its inaugural year with more than 70 clients added. The growth of the combined business group strongly positions the deep technology expertise of Accenture and Oracle’s expansive set of Cloud solutions to help these pioneering leaders effectively move to the Cloud.

Accenture has more than 52,000 Oracle-skilled consultants around the world who help accelerate digital transformation by implementing Oracle-based business solutions and new business processes that can develop and evolve as their digital business grows. Accenture has teamed with Oracle for more than two decades and is a Diamond and Global Cloud Elite-level member in Oracle PartnerNetwork. Oracle Partners Accelerate Innovation and Customer Success in the Cloud with Oracle

Mon, 2016-09-19 07:00
Press Release
Oracle Partners Accelerate Innovation and Customer Success in the Cloud with Oracle New Oracle Cloud Managed Service Provider Program pairs partner services with Oracle’s leading cloud platform to drive datacenter transformation for customers in the cloud

Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif.—Sep 19, 2016

Companies are increasingly looking to the Cloud to stay competitive and drive datacenter transformation. However, many lack the internal skillsets and resources needed to manage complex Cloud migrations and ongoing maintenance, or have the need to shift those resources to areas of strategic innovation. Enabling customers to speed up success in the Cloud with support from the right partner and platform, Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) today announced the Oracle Cloud Managed Service Provider (MSP) Program.

Available to partners with the skills and infrastructure to build, deploy, run and manage both Oracle and non-Oracle workloads, the program enables OPN members to offer a complete managed service solution for workloads running on Oracle Platform as a Service and Infrastructure as a Service.

The partner will be able to buy Oracle Cloud Platform based on the unique needs of the customer, package their MSP services, and sell the integrated solution through a streamlined business model. Partners reap the benefits of building their services on a world-class Cloud infrastructure and customers get the complete solution they need to optimize their Cloud initiatives—helping reduce risk, cost and complexity.

“Cloud represents a huge opportunity for our partner community and Oracle will continue to innovate new programs and offerings that help them grow and thrive in the Cloud,” said Sanjay Sinha, vice president, Platform Products, Oracle. “The new MSP program is a win-win for our customers and partners, as it enables us to work in tandem to provide the solutions and services needed to accelerate time to value and success in the Cloud.”

Helping Partners Grow their Business in the Cloud

Demonstrating the strong market demand for Cloud MSP support, a recent report from 451 Research found that Managed Services at Cloud Service Providers are expected to grow from $17B in 2014 to $43B in 2018.

To participate in the program, partners must meet a specific set of criteria. This includes meeting the conditions of an Oracle Cloud MSP Partner Validation Checklist, which will be audited by a third party, as well demonstrate a minimum level of competency in Oracle IaaS and PaaS products.

Oracle Cloud MSP partners will receive sales and go-to-market support, and can promote their offering with specific Oracle Managed Service Provider branding. OPN also today unveiled the Oracle Cloud MSP Knowledge Zone providing partners with key enablement resources and support throughout their engagement in the program.

Oracle Kicks off Oracle OpenWorld 2016 by Showcasing Industry-First Cloud Innovations

Sun, 2016-09-18 14:00
Press Release
Oracle Kicks off Oracle OpenWorld 2016 by Showcasing Industry-First Cloud Innovations

Oracle OpenWorld, San Francisco, Calif.—Sep 18, 2016

Oracle Executive Chairman and CTO Larry Ellison showcased innovations across the world’s most complete, open and integrated Cloud computing platform in his opening keynote presentation at Oracle OpenWorld 2016 in San Francisco’s Moscone Center.

Ellison introduced Oracle Database 12c Release 2, as well as more than 20 new Oracle Cloud Platform and Application services that extend choice and access for customers and partners globally. Industry-first innovations highlighted include a new Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) that is orders of magnitudes faster and more scalable than other Cloud database services and new Adaptive Intelligence Applications that use machine learning to power the next generation of Cloud applications.

The release of Oracle’s world’s number one database, Oracle Database 12c Release 2, coming first in the Cloud, marks a new era of magnitude and innovation for the enterprise. Building on its unique multi-tenant architecture and in-memory technology, Oracle’s flagship database is able to drive robust enterprise workloads faster than the nearest competitor.

Additional innovations unveiled across the Oracle Cloud include:

  • New public sector and revenue management Cloud services as part of Oracle ERP Cloud
  • Modern employee engagement capabilities as part of Oracle HCM Cloud
  • Expanded packaged industry solutions, new blended agent capabilities for sales and service professionals and expanded B2B commerce functionality within Oracle CX Cloud
  • New financial consolidation and close and profitability and cost management capabilities within Oracle EPM Cloud
  • Exadata Express Cloud Service
  • Container Cloud service to support Cloud developers and make managing containers easy on the public Cloud
  • API Cloud service to help developers create, secure, manage and analyze APIs
  • Enhanced mobile Cloud services that include support for chatbots
  • Low-code development platform that enables business users and developers quickly and easily to extend services and build new applications
  • Integration Cloud service to support integration of Cloud and on-premises applications
  • New analytics Cloud suite to connect data sources and instantly visualize any data on any device
  • Big data discovery Cloud service to visualize and discover hidden value in all data
  • Internet of Things applications for asset management, production insights, connected worker and fleet management
  • Management Cloud services that use machine learning to identify threats and provide early warnings

Quotes from Larry Ellison’s keynote presentation:

  • “Amazon’s lead is over. Amazon is going to have serious competition going forward. And we’re very proud of our second generation of Infrastructure as a Service. We’re going to be focusing on it and aggressively featuring it not only during Oracle OpenWorld but for the remainder of this fiscal year and next fiscal year and the year after that.”
  • “We have more SaaS applications by a huge margin than any other cloud services provider. We have HCM suite, CRM Suite, Customer Experience Suite plus lots and lots of industry suites as well. And we’re constantly, constantly adding to our footprint.”
  • “There are two big databases that keep track of consumers, if you will, and have a lot of information about consumers. One is very famous. It’s called Facebook. The other one is less well known. It’s Oracle’s Data Cloud. We actually have more consumers in our data cloud than they have in theirs.”
  • “You will see as we develop features for the cloud, we’ll also start delivering our software in the cloud first. Clearly it’s going to go on-premises, but the first deployment of our database and a lot of our software now is going to go to the cloud first.”
  • “We have toolsets for developers who want to extend and migrate their existing enterprise applications to the cloud. We have toolsets for cloud-centric developers who are developing all new applications that will only be in the cloud. And we have toolsets for business users, where they can easily, without writing code, easily create extensions to our SaaS applications and even build something.”
  • “Our new second-generation datacenters offer twice as many cores as Amazon, twice as much memory as Amazon, four times as much storage as Amazon, and more than 10 times the I/O capacity of Amazon. But you have to be willing to pay less. If you’re not willing to pay less, you can’t place the order.”
  • “Oracle competes at all three levels of the cloud, all three tiers of the cloud.”

Q1 FY17 GAAP SAAS AND PAAS REVENUES WERE UP 77%, AND UP 79% IN CONSTANT CURRENCY

Thu, 2016-09-15 15:05
Press Release
Q1 FY17 GAAP SAAS AND PAAS REVENUES WERE UP 77%, AND UP 79% IN CONSTANT CURRENCY Q1 FY17 Non-GAAP SaaS and PaaS Revenues grew 82% in Constant Currency

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Sep 15, 2016

Oracle Corporation (NYSE: ORCL) today announced fiscal 2017 Q1 results. Total Revenues were $8.6 billion, up 2% in U.S. dollars and up 3% in constant currency. Cloud plus On-Premise Software Revenues were $6.8 billion, up 5% in U.S. dollars and up 6% in constant currency. Cloud software as a service (SaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) revenues were $798 million, up 77% in U.S. dollars and up 79% in constant currency. Total Cloud Revenues, including infrastructure as a service (IaaS), were $969 million, up 59% in U.S. dollars and up 61% in constant currency. Operating Income was $2.6 billion and Operating Margin was 31%. Non-GAAP Operating Income was $3.4 billion and non-GAAP Operating Margin was 39%. Net Income was $1.8 billion while non-GAAP Net Income was $2.3 billion. Earnings Per Share was up 10% to $0.43, while non-GAAP Earnings Per Share was up 4% to $0.55. GAAP and non-GAAP Earnings Per Share was negatively impacted by three factors: 1 cent because of a higher tax rate due to more cloud sales being in the U.S, half of one cent because of borrowing, and 1 cent due to strengthening of the U.S. dollar.

Short-term deferred revenues were $9.5 billion, up 4% in U.S. dollars and up 5% in constant currency compared with a year ago. Operating cash flow on a trailing twelve-month basis was $13.7 billion.

“Our Cloud business plus our On-Premise Software business grew 7% in constant currency in the first quarter, on a non-GAAP basis,” said Oracle CEO, Safra Catz. “The overall top-line growth of our two strategic businesses was driven by non-GAAP SaaS and PaaS revenue growing 82% in constant currency, substantially outperforming our guidance. As our SaaS and PaaS business continues its rapid growth, we expect its gross margins to climb from 62% this quarter toward our 80% target.”

“This year we are on track to sell more than $2 billion of SaaS and PaaS annually recurring revenue,” said Oracle CEO, Mark Hurd. “We believe this will be the second year in a row that Oracle has sold more SaaS and PaaS than any cloud services provider. In the first quarter alone, we added more than 750 new SaaS customers including 344 new SaaS Fusion ERP customers—that’s more ERP customers than Workday has sold in the history of their company.”

“Next week at Oracle OpenWorld, we will introduce the second generation of our Infrastructure as a Service,” said Larry Ellison, Oracle Chairman and CTO. “Our Generation2 IaaS delivers twice the compute, twice the memory, four times the storage and ten times more I/O at a 20% lower price than Amazon Web Services. IaaS represents a huge new cloud opportunity for Oracle to layer on top of our rapidly growing SaaS and PaaS businesses.”

The Board of Directors also declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.15 per share of outstanding common stock. This dividend will be paid to stockholders of record as of the close of business on October 12, 2016, with a payment date of October 26, 2016.

"Safe Harbor" Statement

Statements in this press release relating to Oracle's future plans, expectations, beliefs, intentions and prospects, including statements regarding our expectations of future growth in our SaaS and PaaS gross margins and recurring revenues; our introduction of new products; and the opportunities to grow the IaaS business are all "forward-looking statements" and are subject to material risks and uncertainties. Many factors could affect our current expectations and our actual results, and could cause actual results to differ materially. We presently consider the following to be among the important factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from expectations: (1) Our cloud computing strategy, including our Oracle Cloud SaaS, PaaS, IaaS and data as a service offerings, may not be successful. (2) If we are unable to develop new or sufficiently differentiated products and services, or to enhance and improve our products and support services in a timely manner or to position and/or price our products and services to meet market demand, customers may not buy new software licenses, cloud software subscriptions or hardware systems products or purchase or renew support contracts. (3) If the security measures for our software, hardware, services or Oracle Cloud offerings are compromised or if such offerings contain significant coding, manufacturing or configuration errors, we may experience reputational harm, legal claims and financial exposure. (6) Economic, geopolitical and market conditions, including the continued slow economic recovery in the U.S. and other parts of the world, can adversely affect our business, results of operations and financial condition, including our revenue growth and profitability, which in turn could adversely affect our stock price. (7) We have an active acquisition program and our acquisitions may not be successful, may involve unanticipated costs or other integration issues or may disrupt our existing operations. In addition, more than one million addressable US companies add powerful account-based marketing (ABM) capabilities to a marketer’s targeting toolkit.

Oracle Data Cloud’s B2B audience solution is designed to meet specific B2B marketing needs:

Oracle Data Cloud’s B2B data is further enriched through strategic partnerships with leading B2B data providers like Bombora, Dun & Bradstreet, FullContact, Gravy Analytics, HG Data, Infogroup, PlaceIQ, and TransUnion and predictive analytics from Leadspace. Asahi Refining Selects Oracle Cloud to Improve Financial Visibility and Accelerate Business Growth

Mon, 2016-08-08 12:13
Press Release
Asahi Refining Selects Oracle Cloud to Improve Financial Visibility and Accelerate Business Growth Modern Finance Platform Enables Asahi Refining to Embrace Industry Change

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Aug 8, 2016

Asahi Refining, the world’s leading provider of precious metal assaying, refining, and bullion products, selected Oracle Cloud Applications and Oracle Cloud Platform to streamline its procurement and financial processes to get a more comprehensive and accurate picture of its financials to provide better visibility into the business.  By moving to the cloud, Asahi Refining has been able to shift its full attention to its core business of refining gold and silver and accelerate business growth.

The ongoing digitization of the refining industry means that organizations need an integrated financial platform to leverage data insights that can help evolve their business models and retain their competitive advantage. To address this market shift, Asahi Refining needed to overhaul its legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, which was difficult to maintain, had limited reporting capabilities and contained fragmented data spread across various silos. The company needed a modern, integrated system to gain the insights needed for swift approvals and decision making.

“In order to update our outdated and over-extended IT infrastructure, we needed to move our financials to a centralized and secure environment,” said Kevin Braddy, IT director, Asahi Refining. “The Oracle ERP Cloud gives us real-time visibility into finance operations across the company and helps drive efficiencies across our financial processes. With this accurate financial information easily at hand, we are able to focus on growing our business.”

Using the Oracle ERP Cloud and Oracle Cloud Platform, Asahi Refining was able to replace its legacy ERP environment with an integrated cloud-based financial system. Within three months, Asahi Refining was able to fully implement the solution and transition to Oracle Self-Service Procurement Cloud, Oracle Financials Cloud, and Oracle Purchasing Cloud.  The company now has a highly accurate, 360-degree view of its financial systems and operations. In addition, Asahi Refining was able to standardize reporting and reduce month-end reporting from a week to just three days, while increasing its efficiency in processing receivable transactions.

“We are happy to be working with Asahi Refining to help them transform their business with the Oracle Cloud,” said Amit Zavery, senior vice president, cloud platform and integration, Oracle.  “Moving from legacy systems to the cloud enabled Asahi Refining to modernize its technology systems, improving visibility into the business and ultimately accelerating growth and increasing efficiency.”

Asahi Refining used the Oracle Java Cloud and Oracle Database Cloud to seamlessly integrate its Oracle ERP Cloud applications with its legacy ERP system and third-party payroll applications, as well as to validate all data coming into the Oracle ERP Cloud from those legacy applications. Additionally, Asahi Refining has been able to lower its total cost-of-ownership by moving to the cloud, which the company can now leverage to realize additional business efficiencies in the future.

The Oracle Cloud runs in 19 data centers around the world and supports 70+ million users and more than 34 billion transactions each day. With the Oracle Cloud, Oracle delivers the industry’s broadest suite of enterprise-grade cloud services, including Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Data as a Service (DaaS).

Forbes Media Selects Oracle Marketing Cloud to Increase Advertising Revenue

Thu, 2016-08-04 07:00
Press Release
Forbes Media Selects Oracle Marketing Cloud to Increase Advertising Revenue Global publisher to leverage high-quality data and superior analytics capabilities to help advertisers reach and engage new audiences

Redwood Shores Calif—Aug 4, 2016

Forbes Media has selected the Oracle Marketing Cloud to take advantage of new digital channels to increase advertising revenue. The deep insights delivered by the Oracle Marketing Cloud’s data analytics and management platform will enable Forbes Media to help advertisers increase audience reach and engagement.

Digital technologies have transformed the competitive landscape in the publishing industry. Free, easily accessible content makes it more difficult for publishers to grow paid subscriptions; new digital publishing platforms have increased the number of publishers by eliminating many of the traditional barriers to market entry; and an explosion of digital channels such as search, social and video have created new competition for ad buys. These changes have forced publishers to rethink how they work with advertisers to reach and engage audiences.

"We knew we needed a new platform that could help our advertisers increase audience reach and engagement,” said Mark Howard, chief revenue officer, Forbes Media. “The Oracle Marketing Cloud provides us with the tools we need to expand and customize our advertisers’ experience on our site and to offer marketers deeper insight into the performance of their digital campaigns. The breadth and scale of Oracle’s third-party data and the seamless integration it has with our systems has created a product that will allow us to provide advertisers with a level of analytics that was previously unachievable.”

Forbes will use the Oracle Data Management Platform (DMP), part of Oracle Marketing Cloud, to analyze its core user base and to provide advertisers, including those running a native BrandVoice program, with enriched detail about the audience that their campaign has reached. The Oracle DMP’s advanced analytics will allow Forbes to work with its advertising partners to develop custom, niche segments tailored to the marketers’ ideal audience. Finally, the Oracle ID Graph, a technology that helps marketers connect identities across disparate marketing channels and devices to one customer, will help Forbes target customers and prospects across all channels and devices, ensuring a relevant, personalized customer experience for each individual.

“Savvy publishers like Forbes are becoming more sophisticated in how they tap their first-party data to make its sites’ audiences more valuable to advertisers,” said Andrea Ward, Vice President of Marketing, Oracle Marketing Cloud. “Leveraging the power of the Oracle data management platform to scale their first-party audience data, Forbes will be better able to package audience inventory to align with advertisers’ needs. This will enhance both the advertisers’ and Forbes revenue streams.”

For more information on the Oracle Marketing Cloud’s data management platform, please see the Oracle Marketing Cloud website.

Glens Falls Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and a New York Medical Center Move to Oracle Cloud Oracle’s modern, integrated cloud solutions help medical centers cost-effectively drive flexible, scalable innovation

Redwood Shores, Calif.—Jul 25, 2016

Oracle announced today that Glens Falls Hospital, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and NYU Langone Medical Center have turned to Oracle Cloud to modernize their healthcare insight and administrative resources for staff and patients. These organizations join many other hospitals, healthcare providers and research centers that have moved the management of their people and business processes to the Oracle Cloud.

Today, the healthcare industry faces pressure from all sides—healthcare reform mandates, changing market conditions, increasing regulatory requirements and the constant need for new revenue streams. Therefore, it is essential for healthcare organizations to be sensitive to securing information. An added complexity is that the workforce is diverse, ranging from hourly to highly skilled workers. Mobile technology has also changed the way information is received and used. Healthcare providers are being asked to do more for less, all while juggling challenges on how to acquire and retain talent, move toward a more digital environment, cut costs and consolidate HR processes. They are turning to cloud technology to adapt to these complex needs.

With Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM) Cloud, healthcare institutions have a single, unified platform to grow with confidence and focus less on process and more on quality patient care. Oracle’s Cloud solutions provide universal reporting and analytics that allow organizations easy access to a complete perspective of its HR functions.

“As the healthcare industry transforms, healthcare institutions need to transform their HCM systems to keep pace with competition, as well as source, employ and retain the best talent. Many suffer from disparate systems that don’t work across functions,” said Chris Leone, senior vice president, Applications Development, Oracle. “Oracle HCM Cloud technology not only provides an easy experience for end users to access and navigate through a variety of platforms—including mobile—but also one that is cost-effective and integrated across all business functions, turning information into meaningful action to help improve employee experience.”

As business models change, providers need systems that can keep up with them. A few key areas in which Oracle’s HCM Cloud systems are helping include:

  • Sourcing and retaining talent with mobile applications: When improving and saving lives, the people who touch patients become incredibly important. Oracle’s Cloud technology provides tools that are modern, easy to use and personalized for each individual employee. With most hospital staff constantly on the go, mobile apps put information in employees’ hands for quick and easy information access. Mobile apps also help employees better connect with the business to take control of their jobs, their development and their careers. This leads to higher levels of productivity and engagement.
  • Cost reduction: Standardizing and automating business processes that eliminate multiple systems and duplicate tasks help reduce IT costs. This offers providers increased efficiency and new market opportunities to grow their businesses.
  • Data insight: Oracle’s Cloud solutions provide real-time business insights into data trends and analytics that directly impact the workforce and profitability. Oracle’s Cloud technology can predict potential staffing and skill gaps, as well as assess profits and losses to manage costs.

“We needed an integrated system that would allow us to provide excellent healthcare service to our patients, while still serving our employees with more convenient HR systems that include global payroll functionalities,” said Kyle Brock, vice president of Human Resources, Glens Falls Hospital. “By going with the entire Oracle HCM Cloud suite, we were able to realize significant cost savings through contract consolidation to increase team productivity and improve overall department efficiency. We were also able to shift our entire HR operations to the Cloud, while not impacting other hospital priorities.”

UPMC, the largest non-governmental employer in Pennsylvania, integrates more than 60,000 employees, 20 hospitals, 500 doctors’ offices and outpatient sites, a 2.9-million-member health insurance division, and international and commercial operations. “Healthcare is faced with increased and far more diverse requirements than even a few years ago,” said John Galley, senior vice president & chief HR officer, UPMC. “As UPMC leads the way in creating patient-centered, value-based healthcare, it is crucial that we have a modern platform in place to help us address new challenges, keep costs low, and deliver flexibility. Oracle’s Cloud-based platform and vision for healthcare made it the right choice for UPMC.”
