Hello DBA's

Please assist with my question here:

There's a need to upgrade EMC Unity for which I have to restart Production and Test databases. There is also Rman online backup in place for both P & Q systems.

+ The databases P and database Q will be affected and have to be stopped and restarted -- Downtime < 15 minutes.

Note: We are having a full back up on weekend and incremental on week days.

So, can we use the full backup from the last weekend and restart the online back ups?
OR
Should I start with incremental instead of a new full back up.

Thank You for all your help smile emoticon

Welcome to the forum. Please read our OraFAQ Forum Guide and How to use [code] tags and make your code easier to read

I do not see why stopping and starting the databases should have any impact on your backup strategy.

Is EMC Unity not the just storage? In which case you should be fine to just keep doing incrementals. It depends on your faith/paranoia though I guess.

Thank You, I appreciate your response.

EMC is only to store archive logs (just the storage)

So, you are saying should I just continue with my incremental back ups. In worst case scenario, I can just restore to previous full back up?

Best Regards,
Agha

What does the location of the archivelogs have to do with the usability of any existing backups?

Hi,

Thanks for your prompt reply and your advice Smile

Sorry, I thought you were asking me if EMC is just the storage? That is why in my previous email I said it is to store archive logs. I know it has nothing to do with usability for backups.

Thank You much so much Roach Coach

Best Regards,
Agha

So if you already know it has nothing to do with usability of backups, what is your question?
